Written in the Stars is an important early-game mission in Final Fantasy XI for players allied with the Federation of Windurst. Serving as Windurst Mission 3-2, this storyline quest tests a player's ability to navigate dangerous ruins and coordinate with other magic-oriented jobs. Completing this objective allows adventurers to progress higher into the nation's ranks while unlocking valuable access items.
Starting the Mission and Preparation
To initiate the mission, speak with any Windurst Gate Guard after accumulating enough rank points or trading crystals. Afterwards, travel to Heavens Tower in Windurst Walls and speak with Zubaba on the second floor to receive the Charm of Light key item. Players should ensure they are at least level 30 or equipped with Sneak and Invisible spells to avoid aggressive monsters along the route.
Navigating the Horutoto Ruins and the Three Mage Gate
Journey into East Sarutabaruta and head toward Lily's Tower at position J-7 to enter the Horutoto Ruins. Navigate through the subterranean corridors to reach the famous Three Mage Gate located inside Rose Tower. Opening the door traditionally requires a party consisting of a White Mage, Black Mage, and Red Mage standing on designated pressure circles simultaneously. Alternatively, players accompanied by someone possessing a Portal Charm can bypass this party job requirement entirely.
Reaching the Gate of Light and Completing the Quest
Once inside the inner ruins, make your way carefully to the small room located at coordinate G-7. Interacting with the Gate of Light triggers a crucial narrative cutscene that updates your mission log. After the cutscene finishes, return to Zubaba at Heavens Tower to report your success and wrap up the official mission parameters.
Unlocking the Portal Charm Reward
While finishing the mission grants rank progression, obtaining the permanent Portal Charm requires one additional task. Players must acquire a single Rolanberry and trade it directly to Kupipi in Heavens Tower. Doing so triggers a final scene and rewards the key item, granting permanent solo access through the Three Mage Gate for future travels.
